(Madison, Ind.) - Shawe Memorial Jr/Sr High School is excited to announce their new high school volleyball coaching staff after former head coach Tim Torrance declared he would not be returning for the 2020-21 season. The Hilltoppers didn’t have to search far to find the perfect fit to take over their program as they looked to promote last year’s newly acquired Jr. High coaches Mr. Dennis Kilgore, Mr. Jeff Lawson, and Mr. Kevin Jones.
Upon hiring these coaches Shawe gains a tremendous amount of experience, leadership, and success as they will look to become a prominent competitor within the Ohio River Valley Conference. Between the three, they have over 25 years of coaching experience, multiple sectional titles, and many ties to Prince of Peace Catholic Schools, the ORVC, and the surrounding community.
"We were extremely excited and fortunate to be able to welcome these three coaches into the Hilltopper family last year as part of our Jr. High program and we are really looking forward to now having their leadership at the high school level,” says Shawe’s Athletic Director, Jamison Bower.
“They are all highly qualified coaches with many accolades and their coaching styles and techniques complement one another’s very well. I don’t think we could ask for better coaches to continue to build and excel our program to the next level,” Bower praises, “and we feel that this is a prime opportunity for them to do just that. We are a rather young, inexperienced program as we return all but one senior and although last year’s team record was not great it does not accurately portray the amount of talent and potential within this great group of girls. Our Lady Hilltoppers experienced a lot of growth throughout last season and we are confident that Dennis, Jeff, and KJ will have a big impact on their continued development and get the most out of the girls both on and off the court.”
Having been involved already with the Jr High program the three coaches assumed their new positions immediately as summer activity started back up this week after being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are all three really excited and honored to get this opportunity to coach the Shawe Lady Hilltoppers volleyball program. We look forward to the chance to build on the existing potential and grow the program to showcase just how much talent Shawe athletics has. We have already been fortunate to see how great this organization’s athletes, parents, and staff are and we are eager to get this upcoming season started.” says acting head coach Dennis Kilgore.
Shawe Memorial volleyball will start this year’s regular season with a home match against New Washington High School on Monday, August 17 @ 6 p.m.
