He has coached in Indiana, Wisconsin and Louisiana
Madison has hired Charles Benintende as its new head football coach, he replaces Leroy Wilson whom resigned in December following a five year stint at the helm of the Cubs he was 12-38 in his five years.
Benintende is a U.S. Army veteran having served from May 1994 to January 2015. He was born and raised in Louisiana where he was a four-sport athlete, and has lived in Arkansas, Florida and Wisconsin over the years but currently resides in Greenville, Indiana, in Floyd County, after moving there to be closer to the family of his wife, Dana, a Floyd Central High School alum.
Benintende said he is committed to coaching the Cubs and once the current school year is over plans to “get a house here, then start living in Madison.”
Madison Athletic Director Patric Morrison, a former Madison player and head coach of the Cubs, said Benintende brings a wide variety of skills to the program. “As he entered the room, his presence was commanding yet very engaging. From the start, it was evident he is passionate about the game, took time to learn about our student-athletes, and was able to connect names and stats — he was invested.”
