Madison Boys Head Coach Adam Stotts announced his resignation last Thursday after three seasons. He said that it was a very difficult decision to make, but family considerations made it the most obvious choice.
He said “The hardest part was breaking it to the guys who have been through so much with me the past three years,” Stotts said. “These guys have come so long and had their been a fourth year — and I know that there would have been a fourth year — it would have been a very successful year.”
He took over the Madison program after Sherron Wilkerson’s resignation. Prized sophomore Jack Miller transferred to Scottsburg, leading scorer and junior Kaden Oliver transferred to Silver Creek mid-season.
Madison went 6-18 that first season and, with four sophomores in the starting lineup, went 4-20 last season before those early learning pangs began to pay dividends this past season. Although the Cubs were just 7-17 in 2023-24, nine of those losses were by six points or less, all against teams with double-digit wins.
The next boys basketball coach will be Madison’s seventh in the past 15 years. No coach has been on the job longer than three seasons since Jim Matthews was forced out after the 2008-09 season. Matthews coached for six seasons and was 78-56.
