Overall, it's still a solid start. We're still about 40 strokes ahead of where we were this time last year. At some point, we're going to hit a point where continuing at that pace isn't realistic, but we have a lot of details to shore up.
We continue to leave a lot of shots around the green, and we haven't seen Emmi's A-game yet. As a team, the amount of three-putts has to continue to improve.
On the bright side, none of the ladies felt like they played well outside of Claire, which she did. It was average golf for us today, and they would agree.
However, I'm seeing so many good things. Today was the first day Emmi was really getting off of the tee. I think low really low scores are eminent. Plus, all of the details that we can improve aren't really mysteries. They have been identified, and (Assistant) Coach (Amanda) Detmer-Leary and I know exactly what we need to do to help the girls get there.
Claire was a pleasant surprise today. She didn't have a lot of opportunities in junior high golf to really get better, but she showed out today. She's probably hit more balls than anybody so far this season, and it shows. I don't want to take away from the solid performance of the collective, though. All of the ladies have been grinding and extremely coachable this season so far. I'm excited to see what we can do at our own invitational next Saturday. Izzie broke her 18-hole PR by 17, and Aleigh broke a hundred for the first time. We're tracking well.
Madison - 200 / Charlestown - 223 / Southwestern - 252 (They filled in after Henryville canceled).
Emmi Dowell 38
Aleigh Wilson 48
Eliza Burnett 58
Izzie Perry 60
Claire Miller 56
Also, Alexa Davis - 61
Tera Scharlau - 66
Savannah Petro - 68
Lilly Fox for Southwestern shot 53
We had a bit of a hiccup tonight, but I'm not too upset about it. We played five matches in nine days. I'm glad to get off of the course and get back to practice, though. The ladies were disappointed with 200, and last year we would've been excited about it.
It was nice to see Emmi get under 40 and Aleigh get under 50, but we definitely need to stay consistent. I know Emmi has been grinding to break that 40 mark, so I'm really happy for her. It looked like her putter was friendly today. We still had too many putts and wasted opportunities as a team.
There are lots of peaks and valleys for teams and individuals when your golf game is progressing. Unfortunately, today was a valley. These girls are tremendous workers and have a lot of pride. We'll get there.
