The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's all-sport trophy winners for the 2018-19 season on Monday, May 6. The Panther men finished first overall, while the women were a close second place to Transylvania (Ky.). Hanover is winning the men's all-sports trophy for the second time, with the only other occurrence coming in 1999-00. The Hanover College women's tennis will make its fifth trip in six years to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, as the Panthers head to Atlanta, Ga. to compete against North Carolina Wesleyan in opening round action. Hanover, along with NC Wesleyan, are in a five-team regional hosted by nationally-ranked No. 1 Emory (Ga.). Two other nationally ranked teams, No. 23 Washington & Lee (Va.) and No. 30 Sewanee (Tenn.), join the pod as well. All four teams outside of Hanover are inside the top 11 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South regional rankings and have a combined 15 singles and doubles players/pairs regionally ranked. The Chicago Dogs of the American Association. have signed Madison left-hander Ryan Thurston to a contract. This is the Dogs 2nd year as an independent and plays at Impact Field in Rosemont, Illinois west of Chicago. Thurston played for Bluefield last season with the Toronto Blue Jays organization and was released in March.
