“We have a familiar name back on the Madison golf team,” shares Joe Bronkella, Madison Athletic Director. The Athletic Department is pleased to announce Chris Conner as the new Head Coach for the Boys Varsity Golf team. The last name may ring a bell as Chris’ son, Landon Conner, was a stand-out for Madison’s State qualifying golf team this past spring.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Madison coaching staff and look forward to continuing to grow a great program,” shared Conner. “The boys golf team has experienced a great deal of success over the past several years and I want to continue down that road. In order to do that we will need kids to get involved...at the high school, junior high, and younger ages, if possible.”
Conner brings a familiarity to the Cubs. He has been a part of the team for the last four years as a parent of a very successful golfer. His son, Landon, is currently attending Campbellsville University on a golf scholarship. “I have watched these young men grow as individuals and as a team over the last four years,” shares Conner. “We will have the opportunity to rebuild on a very solid foundation. We graduated some very talented golfers but I look forward to our underclassmen stepping up into leadership roles and bringing on some new talent.”
Conner replaces Coach Dale Crafton who retired at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 season. Conner is a supervisor at Clifty Engineering where he has worked for 21 years. He was a part owner in Cozy Acres Golf Course, spent three years as the Madison Junior High School golf team coach, and has coached various youth basketball and baseball teams within our community.
