By Scott County Sheriff’s Office release

Allen Funt would be proud

On May 14, 2018, a Scott County resident reported unknown person(s) had stolen a surveillance camera from his property. Due to the camera system being wireless, the owner had an app that allowed him to review his camera system from his cell phone. The owner reported receiving videos and image notifications every time the stolen camera was turned on and recording.

Suspect(s) were unaware of the camera system capabilities and after taking a still image of a tablet device, the suspect’s reflection could be seen in the image. Additionally, the suspect(s) recorded themselves participating in drug related activities. Without their knowledge, all videos and images were obtained by the owner.

The owner of the camera took to Facebook to help identify the suspect(s) in the photo and video. Facebook tips and a criminal investigation, positively identified Charles Newman and Chad Earl as the individuals in the photo and video.
