(Madison, Ind.) – Multiple people had to be rescued from an early morning fire in Madison over the Fourth of July weekend.

Madison Police responded to the fire in the 600 block of Walnut Street on July 3.

Upon arriving at the scene around 1:00 a.m., officers observed multiple people were trapped in an upstairs apartment, and the staircase was engulfed in flames.

A child inside the home began breaking out windows, and one-by-one multiple children and an adult female leapt from the second story into the waiting arms of officers on the ground.

After rescuing the family, officer Josh Nolan and Kyle Potter, both of whom are experienced firefighters, began fighting the fire until more firefighters arrived on the scene.
