(Vevay, Ind.) – Main Street America and The Hartford are pleased to announce the first round of the HartBeat of Main Street Grant Program.

All across the country, 67 brick and mortar stores were awarded grants of $5,000 to $15,000, these funds awarded will help businesses respond and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic and help to revitalize and strengthen older and historic downtown commercial districts.

“As COVID-19 continues to have a devastating impact on the small businesses that make our downtowns thrive, these locally-owned businesses need our support now more than ever,” said the National Main Street Center’s President and CEO Patrice Frey. “We are thrilled to assist these small business owners as they work to not only address challenges related to the pandemic but also support the resilience of older and historic Main Street and commercial districts.”

These grant projects range from physical improvements to meet reopening guidelines, to equipment to comply with public health and safety guidelines, and much more.

Locally, Vevay Vintage Prop & Shop submitted a proposal focusing on portable sanitizing stations, outdoor seating, and a contactless point of sale system all as on-site physical improvements and adaptions.

In addition, the store will use these grants to continue to develop the shop’s web presence with an improved eBay Store and online shopping added to the website.

The second round of the HartBeat of Main Street Grant Program will open on Thursday, October 22.
