Utilities Disconnects Begin Tomorrow August 26

(Madison, Ind.) – Governor Holcomb, through an executive order, prohibited utilities from disconnecting services to customers for six months.

This moratorium expired on August 14. Beginning tomorrow August 26, the City of Madison will be enforcing disconnects for customers in order to collect delinquent balances for trash, water, and sewer charges.

“The City of Madison has always encouraged customers to stay up to date on their utility bills if they were able to do so. We understand that there will be individuals unable to pay the full amount due, which is why the Utility Billing Office has worked to devise a payment plan option for those customers,” said Utility Manager Brian Jackson.

Customers who are disconnected will need to make a payment to have services reconnected. Customers whose past due bills are less than $80 will be required to pay the full past due amount. Those who owe more than $80 will have the option to pay the total amount past due or pay one half of the past due to have services reinstated.

The remaining half will be due during the next billing cycle. if the required payment is made once the service has been disconnected, disconnection fees will be waived.

Disconnections for downtown will be on August 26, and hilltop disconnects will be September 16.
