Both Facing Numerous Charges

Wednesday Evening Madison Police Patrolman Curtis Shelpman attempted to execute a traffic stop at Main & East Street, for a vehicle operating without headlights after dark. The vehicle initially sped up, as Officer Shelpman observed the passenger in the Dodge Pick-up throw an object out the window.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop at East and Third Streets, and the discarded item was located by Patrolman Trent Smith, who was following Officer Shelpman.
The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Quentin R. Leahigh 43, Madison, Indiana. The driver was identified as Jim L. Bear 49, Madison, Indiana. Due to their activities, prior to the stop, both occupants were removed from the vehicle and secured.
The subsequent investigation led to the discovery of narcotics and items associated with the use of drugs.
Quentin R. Leahigh faces preliminary alleged charges of possession of methamphetamine L-6 felony and possession of paraphanailia "C" misdemeanor. Jim L. Bear faces preliminary alleged charges of possession of legend drug L-6 felony and possession of marijuana "B" misdemeanor. Both were transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Quentin Leahigh and Jim Bear have the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty. Along with Officer Smith, Shlepman was assisted by Officer Jackson and Deputy Muldoon.
