Trooper from Versailles District Promoted to Sergeant in K-9 Division

In 2005, Sgt. Richey was selected to become a K-9 Handler.

Recently, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter announced the promotion of Master Trooper Christopher Richey to the position of sergeant in the Indiana State Police, K-9 Division.

Sergeant Richey graduated from Brownstown Central High School, Brownstown, Indiana in 1992.  After high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he served active duty for eight years.  In December 2000, Sgt. Richey graduated from the 60th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.  After graduating from the ISP Academy, he was assigned to patrol duties at the Indiana State Police-Versailles District.  In 2005, Sgt. Richey was selected to become a K-9 Handler.

Since becoming a K-9 Handler, Sgt. Richey has patrolled with two different K-9s.  K-9 “Heiko” retired in 2012.  His current K-9 “Rayner” is nearly 11 years old.  Sgt. Richey became a K-9 Trainer in 2014 and a Master Trainer in 2017.  In 2019, he was moved from the Versailles District to the ISP-Special Operations Division to serve as one of three Indiana State Police full time master trainers, training ISP K-9s throughout the state. 

In his new position, Sgt. Richey will continue to train and certify K-9s from the Indiana State Police and other police departments throughout the State of Indiana.

Sgt. Richey lives in Franklin County, Indiana with his wife Aimee and two children.
