(Madison, Ind.) - A confirmed tornado touched down in Madison on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, multiple homes and structures were damaged, and trees and power lines were downed.

"Thank you to all the first responders from our county as well as surrounding counties, electric companies, road crews, volunteers, and community members who assisted this afternoon," reads a statement from the Sheriff's Office.

Residents of Jefferson are asked to contact Indiana 211 to report severe storm damage from March 14, 2024.

To help establish a comprehensive assessment of damage, residents can call 211 or visit the Indiana 211 website. Collecting assessments via this process will help IDHS determine damage estimates and develop the next course of action in the disaster recovery process.

As the storm system moved eastward, the Town of Vevay would be impacted by massive hail,

There was also significant damage in the Milton area up to Highway 36 to Carroll County. Two suffered unknown injuries in that area. Hwy 36 between Milton and Carrollton is currently closed to thru traffic and only residents whom live in the area or are helping with clean up are allowed in the area.

Gallatin County has also reported sustaining damage as part of a separate storm system that moved through the area approximately the same time. Part of the damage in Gallatin County is damage to the Sparta power substation. The majority of the damage reported in Gallatin County is from hail and strong winds.
