Isaac Boone of MCHS
One local student has been named the recipient of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship as the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County’s 2020 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
Madison Consolidated High School senior Isaac Boone has been selected as the 2020 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. Isaac will receive full tuition to the Indiana college or university of his choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.
Isaac is currently considering attending either Indiana University-Bloomington or Purdue University, and is planning to major in Music Performance and Music Education. Isaac is the son of Ann Kirkland and Steven Boone of Hanover. He actively participates in National Honor Society and the Madison Consolidated High School Bands. Isaac has participated in the Indiana All State Honor Band, has received multiple Gold ratings at the ISSMA State Solo & Ensemble Contest, teaches private saxophone lessons, and is a member of the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to have been selected as 2020’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar,” Isaac said. “Being selected from a group of finalists as exceptional as this year’s is an immeasurable honor. I would like to thank my teachers, friends, and family for their unwavering support and the Community Foundation for providing me with so many opportunities in the future.”
Twenty-three Jefferson County students applied for the scholarship this year, and six finalists were identified. Including Boone, the six finalists (and their schools) were: Luka Chabukashvili (Madison), Jessie Dyer (Madison), Madelynn Jacobs (Southwestern), Nathaniel Pawlak (Shawe Memorial), and Harper Watson (Madison). Chabukashvili, Dyer, Jacobs, Pawlak, and Watson will each receive a $1,000 Community Foundation Scholar Award from the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County for their efforts and achievements.
Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) administers the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship statewide and selects the final recipients. ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 30 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state. The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Including the 23rd cohort, 4,769 full-tuition scholars have been awarded and over $405 million in scholarship tuition has been provided since the program’s inception in 1998.
