This new eligibility will begin on March 15.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Teachers and school staff across the Hoosier state are now being added to the list of those eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccine.
Governor Eric Holcomb made this announcement on Wednesday during his weekly COVID-19 update.
Beginning on Monday, March 15, teachers, and staff in pre-K through high school, childcare centers, Head Start, and Early Start programs may schedule appointments to get vaccinated.
The list of those eligible also include:
- Licensed childcare providers, including center-based and family care providers
- Administration staff, cafeteria workers, and substitute teachers
- Classroom aides, counselors, bus drivers, and janitors
Hoosiers age 50 and older, healthcare workers, and first responders are also eligible to receive the vaccine.
The Indiana Department of Health and FSSA is contacting providers of Hoosiers with the following conditions to arrange vaccinations:
- Intellectual and developmentally disabled individuals receiving home or community-based services.
- Early childhood conditions that are carried into adulthood:
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- People born with severe heart defects, requiring specialized medical care
- Severe Type I diabetes, requiring hospitalizations in the past year
- Phenylketonuria (PKU), Tay-Sachs, and other rare inherited metabolic disorders
- Epilepsy with continuing seizures, hydrocephaly, microcephaly, and other severe neurologic disorders
- Severe asthma, requiring hospitalization in the past year
- Alpha and beta-thalassemia
- Spina bifida
- Cerebral palsy
