Dangerously cold wind chills possible
...Gusty Winds Today along with a Brief Transition to Snow Tonight...
...Bitter Cold Wind Chills Coming Tuesday Night through Thursday...
A strong low-pressure system will cross the Midwest today, bringing a cold front into the region tonight. Winds will pick up from the south ahead of this front, allowing for above normal temperatures across the area for highs today. Expects gusts in the 30 to 40 mph range later this morning through this evening.
Colder air behind the front may allow for a brief transition to light snow before precipitation chances end later tonight. Warm grounds ahead of that snow should help limit accumulations. Expect the transition to occur in the 6 to 9 PM EST time frame west of I-65 and from 9 PM to Midnight for points east of I-65.
Another reinforcing cold front will move through the region Tuesday night, bringing breezy conditions again as well as very cold temperatures. Lows Wednesday morning likely will be in the low to mid-single digits. Wind chills will be the bigger story though, with minimum readings likely ranging from ten to twenty degrees below zero! Low temperatures Thursday morning could go below zero. Winds will not be as strong, but any breezes could bring similar wind chills.
Areas along and north of US 50, The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Watch from tomorrow evening through Wednesday evening. Dangerously cold wind chills possible. Wind chills as low as 30 below zero possible. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Make plans now to prepare for this extended period of very cold conditions.
