South Bend man arrested for Robbery of local Credit Union

Suspect located and arrested following local Credit Union robbery

On November 2, 2022, at approximately 4:02 PM Madison Police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and the Indiana State Police responded to the Jefferson Community Federal Credit Union regarding a bank robbery.  

The assailant entered the bank, displayed a note to the teller indicating the robbery, and made threats of bodily harm should they not comply.  After receiving U.S. currency from the credit union, the assailant fled west on Ivy Tech Drive, in a Ford Fiesta passenger car.  

Due to an excellent description from witnesses, and quick actions by law enforcement, a suspect was developed with-in twenty minutes of the robbery.  At approximately 5:30 PM the suspect vehicle was found abandoned on a County Road 1525 west in Deputy, Indiana,  

Additional information received during the investigation indicated the suspect, identified as Tobie W. Dennis 43, South Bend, Indiana, may have associations with an individual living on Blake Road.  

Officers responded to the Blake Road address, and located Dennis in the garage.  Dennis was taken into custody by law enforcement without incident.  

A search warrant was obtained for the Blake Road residence, all vehicles on the property, and out buildings.  During the search of the garage, the location in which officers located Dennis, currency taken in the robbery was recovered.  

Tobie W. Dennis 43, faces a preliminary alleged charge of ARMED ROBBERY L-3 felony.  A parole hold has also been placed against Dennis, he is currently being held without bond.  This is an ongoing investigation, further details will be forthcoming.  Dennis was taken into custody by police with-in two hours and fifteen minutes of the reported robbery. Madison Police Detectives Ricky Harris and Shawn Scudder are leading the investigation.
