The team competed and placed 5th in Social Studies, 14th in English, and 20th in Interdisciplinary out of over 40 teams.
(Madison, Ind.) - Students at Shawe Memorial Junior High competed in the Junior Divison of the virtual Indiana Academic Superbowl contest on Monday, May 3.
The team competed and placed 5th in Social Studies, 14th in English, and 20th in Interdisciplinary out of over 40 teams.
The theme for this season was The American Woman: A Generation of Progress. The team researched and studied topics including the Equal Rights Amendment, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the role of women of color in the Suffrage Movement, important leaders, national women’s organizations, legislation, and Supreme Court cases related to Sex Discrimination and the Modern Women’s Movement. Poetry and non-fiction studied included “We Real Cool”, “Wild Geese”, “Mirror”, “Diving into the Wreck”, and “Nobel Lecture.” The Interdisciplinary round also included questions about Math and Science.
Shawe’s team included Avery Clayton (captain), Ava Armbrecht, and Allie Riedel and was coached by Mrs. Andie Martin, AP English/Language Arts Teacher.
