The Navy Bean Fall Festival takes place on Friday & Saturday, September 13 & 14.
(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Ohio County Tourism announces that September 2024 is filled with a multitude of fun events for kids of all ages.
The excitement begins with the Fall Maker’s Market at the Rising Sun History Museum on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Vendors will be selling their handmade items from 10am-4pm at the museum located at 212 S. Walnut Street in Rising Sun. Admission is free.
The Ohio Valley River Cats Fishing Tournament takes place on Saturday & Sunday, September 7-8, 2024 in downtown Rising Sun. Teams can still register through the ohiovalleyrivercats.com website. First Place is $10,000, with many other awards paid out during the event.
“The tournament weigh-in is always a lot of fun. Hundreds of people come to Rising Sun Riverfront Park and watch as totes of fish are brought in over the two days,” said Kendal Miller, executive director of Ohio County Tourism, Inc.
The tournament has made many enhancements over the years, one of which includes a live broadcast of the weigh-in over Facebook Live. Miller explained that people from other areas can watch that may not be able to travel to Rising Sun to experience it in person.
The not-for-profit Flotsam River Circus will be performing along the Ohio River near the City of Rising Sun Main Street pavilion on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 6-7:30 p.m.
A troupe of musicians, puppeteers, and circus artists who travel on a ramshackle raft, Flotsam gives free performances in riverfront towns along the way. The performance is free to attend, but donations are accepted and help support this ambitious project. Learn more about the group at rivercircus.com.
The Navy Bean Fall Festival takes place on Friday & Saturday, September 13 & 14, 2024 on Main, Poplar & Front Streets in downtown Rising Sun. Arts & crafts, food trucks, live entertainment, characters and more are all part of the annual event. The main attraction—navy beans and cornbread—will be sold along the riverfront.
Live bands include the Rising Sun Church of Christ Worship Team and Kristine Kabbes and the Scallywags on Friday. Saturday performers include the Sweet Beats Beatles Tribute Band, the Austin Tyler Lee Band, and Zack Attack.
The annual Navy Bean Fall Festival Parade takes place on Saturday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Rising Sun. Applications are still being accepted and can be found in Rising Sun at City Hall at 200 North Walnut Street or at the Visitors Center located at 217 N. High Street.
Locals and guests can search for treasures during the Rising Sun Community Yard Sale that takes place on Thursday-Saturday, September 19-21, 2024. A list of residences will be available through the City of Rising Sun closer to the date, although additional participants can be found along the way. Dates and opening/closing times of sales will vary from resident-to-resident.
“Some residents participate all three days while others may choose to only set up one or two,” said Miller.
Locals and visitors are encouraged to stop by the local shops and eateries on Rising Sun Main Street and the outskirts of town while they’re in town.
Additional events will be added to the tourism website at enjoyrisingsun.com under the “Events” tab.
