Scottsburg Police Detective Hit By Vehicle Saturday Morning Assisting A Bus That Was Disabled

To undergo surgery today and Wednesday

A detective with the Scottsburg Police Department who was hit by a vehicle Saturday morning is expected to have surgery later this week.

Detective Mike Nichols was struck by a vehicle Saturday morning around 7:00 am on SR 56 while assisting a disabled motorist.

Detective Nichols sustained broken bones in his right and left arm as well as broken ribs. He will be undergoing a shoulder replacement surgery today (Monday) and will have another surgery on his wrist this Wednesday.

The Scottsburg Police Department ask that everyone be aware and take caution when officers are seen on our roadways. Slow down and give plenty of room to those who work on and keep those roadways safe.
