(Scottsburg, Ind) - A Scottsburg man was given nearly a decade in prison for Dealing in Methamphetamine while on probation.
Cody Williams of Scottsburg has been convicted of Dealing in Methamphetamine, domestic battery, and violating his probation.
In August of 2018 while on probation for a prior drug possession conviction, Williams sold drugs to a confidential informant.
The informant was working with the joint effort between the Austin Police Department and Scottsburg Police Department when Williams sold the confidential informant approximately 0.67 grams of Methamphetamine.
As a result of the work between these two departments, Williams received a total sentence of 9 years and 9 months, all to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction.
Chris Owens, Scott County Prosecuting Attorney said,
“People who sell drugs illegally and people who commit new crimes while on probation are both high priorities for the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Williams just happened to fall into both of these categories, I hope that Mr. Williams gets the help that he needs while paying off his debt to society, and I hope that when his freedom is returned, he joins us ready to be a law-abiding citizen.”
This case shows how the collaboration between two local law enforcement agencies helps “make the community a safer place.”
