(Scott County, Ind.) – On December 21, Corporal Charlie Morgan responded to an address in rural Scott County for repeated 911 calls threatening Sheriff’s Office Deputies with death and serious bodily harm.
Corporal Morgan had also received a threatening message to his work telephone from a number believed to belong to that address.
Deputies along with officers from the Austin and Scottsburg City Police Departments went to the residence that was making the threatening calls.
Upon arrival, the resident of the home Patricia Nasby, 49, of Scottsburg was threatening officers with a firearm. After many failed attempts of compliance, officers were able to use a bean bag gun to disarm Nasby.
She was then taken into custody and transported to the Scott Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Nasby was charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, and Placement of a 911 Call for Prohibited Purposes.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office stated that when Sheriff Goodin took over as Sheriff he implemented a plan for the use of bean bag guns instead of using lethal force in situations where it can be used. He purchased, trained, and had officers certified to use them. In this particular case, the situation developed to where officers could use the bean bag gun instead of firearms.
