Scott Co. Man Arrested on Stolen Firearm and Drug Charges

(Jackson County, Ind.) - A 64-year-old Scott County man was arrested Sunday where police then found that he was in possession of a stolen firearm, methamphetamine and marijuana.

Edward L. Turner of Scottsburg is facing preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and carrying a handgun without a permit with a prior conviction and theft.  

According to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Officer Zach Elliott said he was patrolling near State Road 11 and Interstate 65 near Seymour when he noticed a vehicle swerving from side to side and equipment violation.

During a traffic stop, Elliott was able to identify the driver as Turner where he also noticed that Turner's vehicle smelled like marijuana, Elliott then conducted a search where he found marijuana, methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and a handgun.

Turner was then asked to take a field sobriety test, which he failed, and the handgun that was found came back as stolen out of Washington County.

Turner is currently in the Jackson County Jail where he is being held without bond.
