(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Twenty-seven new bills have made their way to Governor Eric Holcomb’s desk today to receive his signature or a veto.

One bill that Gov. Holcomb is reviewing is Senate Bill 255 will repeal a provision that requires an individual to possess a prescription to purchase an insulin drug.

In 2014 the state implemented a law that would require a prescription for insulin to help patients avoid fraudulent medication. This new bill will make it easier for those who need insulin to receive it in emergency situations.

Senator Ed Charbonneau, of Valparaiso, authored revising the 2014 law saying, “Indiana is the only state in the nation to require a prescription for all insulin drugs, the concerns about fraudulent medication are proved unjustified.”

Senate Bill 255 passed the Senate unanimously in January also passed by a unanimous vote on the house floor in February, and is now waiting on Gov. Holcomb’s signature.
