The new age to buy tobacco products in IN is 21
(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Indiana lawmakers are set on making it difficult for underage citizens to obtain tobacco-related products.
Legislators advanced an agreement on February 26, reached by Senate and House negotiators on the bill that is supported by health advocated and business leaders.
These additional penalties are all part of a bill for increasing Indiana’s minimum age for smoking and vaping from 18 to 21 to conform with a new federal law.
The new agreement would boost the maximum fine against a retailer for a first violation from $200 to $400. The penalties would increase until a third violation within a year, which would carry a maximum fine of $2,000.
