School will have first ever resource officer
Madison, IN,- Shawe Memorial and Pope John XXIII are pleased to announce the new position of a School Resource officer for their campus on State Street. The schools have been working with several different groups to make this happen and appreciate all the support they received through the process.
The 2024-2025 School year officially begins August 7th for Prince of Peace Catholic Schools, and they will have a full-time SRO on campus.
Matthew Armstrong ‘11, who has worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for several years, has been hired to take the new SRO position. Shawe and Pope John have worked in conjunction with Crossroads Security Group out of Indianapolis. Crossroads helps support several schools in the Indianapolis area and has worked closely with Shawe and Pope John to bring an SRO position to the schools.
The position at Shawe and Pope John will cover both schools. Officer Armstrong will be the main person on campus. Crossroads will help identify a handful of other officers to be hired on a part time basis for additional hours or events when needed.
President of Prince of Peace Catholic Schools, Phil Kahn ’87 said, “This is a great step for our school's safety. Safety is always a high priority for our students, staff, families, and visitors on campus. We are thrilled to have Officer Armstrong on campus, and we always appreciate the support from the Sheriff’s office, the Madison police, the State Police, the City of Madison, and a number of other groups that helped us achieve this goal. We are lucky to be in such a great community.”
