Police Chase Leads To Fatal Accident East of Kent

A police chase which began according to Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with Indiana State Police, when an officer with the Madison Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that refused to pull over and ended when the driver of the fleeing vehicle lost control of the car and crashed on the Northside of the highway while headed eastbound on SR 256.

Police are confirming two dead in the vehicle which police were pursuing when it crashed on SR 256 and Thompson Road around 4pm.

One other subject was transported to a Louisville hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

One of the victim's has been identified as Southwestern High School senior Tyler Cooley, the second name or person air-lifted has not been officially released. No law enforcement agents were injured in the crash.

Southwestern High School has canceled Friday night’s Homecoming dance.

Indiana State Police is taking the lead on the investigation.

SR 256 at Thompson Road was closed for close to 12 hours for the investigation and repair of power lines.

A power outage occurred when the vehicle took out a power pole effecting over 250 Duke Energy Customers between Thompson Road and CR 1125W to just south of Chicken Run Road to the north. Duke Energy says it could be close to 4am on Friday before power is restored.
