Plainfield Man Arrested After Pursuit Thru Downtown Madison

Wednesday , @ approximately 2:31PM Jefferson County Central Dispatch was notified of a vehicle pursuit initiated by the Vevay, Indiana, Police Department.  The pursuit started near Switzerland County High School and continued West bound on Highway #56 into Jefferson County.   

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy John Schoenstein successfully deployed stop-sticks at Highway #56 and B-Camp Road.   The passenger side front tire of the fleeing vehicle was deflated, however the pursuit continued West into downtown Madison.  

The pursuit proceeded West on Second Street, crossed Main Street at West Street, and went the wrong way (West) once it reached Third Street.  The fleeing vehicle eventually crossed from Third Street, back to Second Street, where it continued West bound to Madison Avenue.  After going North on Madison Avenue, the fleeing suspect turned East on Main Street, where he traveled approximately eleven blocks.  The pursuit was brought to a successful conclusion at Main and West Street, however the driver had to be extracted from the vehicle after he refused to exit on his own.      

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Edward D. Kinnett 39, Plainfield, Indiana.  Kinnett sustained a laceration to his right arm and was transported to KDH-ER for treatment.  Madison Police Senior Patrolman Seth Melton sustained a minor hand injury while extracting Kinnett from the vehicle. 

Edward Kinnett has been transported back to Vevay, Indiana, upon his release from KDH-ER.  Kinnett has an outstanding "Parole Warrant Violation" for possession of methamphetamine and an active warrant out of Jefferson County, Indiana, for failing to appear on a dangerous drug charge. 

Kinnett will face a multitude of additional charges in both Switzerland and Jefferson County regarding the vehicle pursuit. Edward Kinnett has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.  

Agencies involved in this multi-county pursuit include, Vevay Police Department, Switzerland County Sheriff's Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Madison Police Department and the Hanover Police Department.
