One Arrested on Burglary Charges

(Madison,Ind.) - On 

March 26, 2020, @ approximately 10:38 PM the Madison Police responded to a burglary in progress at the storage units 1054 W. Second Street. Patrolman Josh Nolan was the first officer to arrive on scene.  

Upon arrival, Patrolman Nolan heard noises coming from inside a storage unit, and noted the door was partially open. Upon entry, Nolan located a male subject inside, and took him into custody without incident. The lock on the unit had been cut. 

The subject was identified as Deon C. Smith 34, Sherpherdsville, Kentucky. Located at the scene was Smith's backpack, which contained tools known to be utilized in burglaries. Smith was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he faces preliminary alleged charges of Burglary Level 4 Felony and Criminal Mischief Class A Misdemeanor.  

All charges are alleged and Smith has the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Patrolman Nolan was assisted at the scene by Sergeant R. Wayne Phillips and Patrolman James Lee.
