(Oldham County, Ky.) – The Oldham County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scam phone calls or robocalls from an individual(s) claiming to be with the sheriff’s office.

The callers are stating that there is an outstanding arrest warrant for you, for failing to attend jury duty at the county courthouse. The person then instructs the victim to drive to a local Kroger or Rite Aid, and purchase prepaid gift cards valued at $500.00 each.

The callers then ask for the card numbers to have the warrant “recalled.” Once the information is provided the caller then disconnects.

The Oldham County Sheriff’s Office or any law enforcement agency, including the IRS, will not call asking for money over the phone.

If you receive a call like this one or a scam call of any kind you are instructed to call local law enforcement and report it. Personal or financial information should also never be shared over the phone or the internet.

Citizens are also reminded to never deposit or wire money in this manner to anyone claiming to be law enforcement or otherwise.
