Ohio River search to continue for missing boater

Identity pending notification of next of kin

                                      

GALLATIN COUNTY, Ky. - The search for a boater missing more than 24 hours now in the Ohio River is expected to resume on Tuesday.

A man in his late 40s fell from his boat into the Ohio River shortly before 3 a.m. Monday and did not resurface near Paint Lick Road in Warsaw, according to a news release from Gallatin County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

Friends immediately searched the water for him, to no avail.

The man and some of his friends were returning from pleasure boating unrelated to Riverfest. He was sitting on his boat when he stood up and fell into the water, according to the release.

Authorities know the man’s identity but have not released it pending notification of next of kin.

At least 10 agencies are assisting in the search with boats and sonar such as: Gallatin County Fire Department, Gallatin County EMA, Gallatin County EMS, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Warsaw Police Department, Boone County EMA, Boone County Water Rescue, Jeff-Craig Fire Department, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, and Air Methods-Bedford.
