Ohio Co. Tourism Issues Statement After Paint-Over of "Heart in Hand" Mural

Tourism said the mural was never intended to last forever.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Ohio County Tourism provided a statement on their Facebook page on Sunday regarding the removal of a mural Ohio County Tourism Visitors Center.

The mural (seen above) was created in 2021 by local artist and Rising Sun-Ohio County Community School art teacher Amberly King and community members.

The project was part of Rising Sun Community Arts Day where attendees had the opportunity to paint a square on the wall at the Visitors Center.

Recently, a paint-over was completed by a tourism board member at no cost. Vinyl promotional event banners have since been placed over the wall.

“One side of the wall belongs to Tourism and has always been intended to support advertising. Tourism was asked for space for the mural after arrangements didn’t pan out to create a mural on the building of another not-for-profit organization. The tourism board allowed the mural to be placed on their property. Tourism also contributed by paying artist, Amberly King, to spearhead the mural project. The mural was there for nearly four years. It was never intended to be there forever,” reads a portion of the statement from Ohio County Tourism.
