(Jennings County, Ind.) – On October 28, Jennings County Deputy Ian McPherson conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation in the area of US Highway and County Road 900 West,
During the course of the traffic stop, Deputy McPherson suspected the occupants were involved in criminal activity, so requested a canine for an open-air sniff of the vehicle. Seymour Police Department Canine Officer Devlin McMendis and canine Edi arrived to assist.
Canine Edi alerted to the presence of a narcotic odor being emitted from the vehicle.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that one of the passengers in the vehicle, Tamara K. Ross, 35 of North Vernon, was in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, and was also in possession of a handgun.
Deputy McPherson arrested Ross on multiple charges. The other two occupants of the vehicle were determined not to be involved and were released. Ross was transported to the Jennings County Jail where she is being held on a level 5 felony with a cash bond.
It was later determined by the sheriff’s office that the amount of fentanyl taken off the street was enough to kill 1,666 people.
