(Madison, Ind.) – A new report takes a look at how hospitals are handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Department of Health and Human Services has provided facility-level data for hospital utilization on a weekly basis. This report includes all hospitals registered with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as of June 1.
We took a look into six area hospitals, including Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison, Carroll County Hospital in Carrollton, St. Vincent in North Vernon, Scott Memorial in Scottsburg, St. Elizabeth in Florence, Highpoint Health (now St. Elizabeth) in Lawrenceburg.
Currently, Kings Daughters Hospital has five ICU beds that are occupied by inpatients. The hospital has 54 of 113 beds in use. Only 11 of 53 patients are confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Scott Memorial in Scottsburg has 20 of 36 beds occupied, with four of those patients being COVID-19 positive.
St. Vincent in North Vernon currently has 5 of their 25 beds being occupied. Carroll County Hospital has the least amount of patients with only four of 29 beds in use.
In other hospitals around the area, St. Elizabeth Florence typically has 177 beds available. To date, 186 beds are in-use, 25 of which are occupied by COVID-19 patients. St. E's ICU is nearly full with 14 of the 18 beds in use. Four ICU patients are being treated for COVID-19.
St. Elizabeth Lawrenceburg, formally Highpoint Health, is nearly full. According to the report from HSS, 45 or 46 of the hospital's 54 beds are in use for COVID and non-COVID patients. All ICU beds are occupied, including four COVID-19 patients.
