He has been with the department for 10 years
Madison, Indiana (December 27, 2023) – The City of Madison Police Department (MPD) will be under the leadership of Detective Sergeant Shawn Scudder following his appointment by Mayor Courtney and swearing-in by Judge Donald J. Mote on December 27, 2023, in City Hall Council Chambers.
Detective Sergeant Scudder has been an influential member of the MPD for over ten years and has spearheaded significant projects such as Operation Predator Net, a program working to end crimes against children, and the Police Advocacy and Support Services (PASS) program, which provides mental health resources and support for law enforcement personnel.
Scudder is a Madison Consolidated Schools alumnus and an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy graduate who has received training in instructor development, ICAC Undercover Chats, and crime scene investigations. He has held positions on the Ivy Tech Criminal Justice Advisory Board, Community Corrections Advisory Board, and Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.
"Scudder has been an emerging leader within the MPD, leading our efforts concerning crimes against children (Operation Predator Net) and establishing the PASS program for officers in our area," said Mayor Courtney. "He has received numerous commendations and has been a tenured department veteran solving difficult cases as a detective throughout his time in the MPD. I look forward to working with Chief Scudder and the MPD team on our public safety initiatives and thank Chief Wallace for his solid leadership during his term.”
"I'm looking forward to leading this department into the future and am excited to step into this position with the current administration,” said Detective Sergeant Shawn Scudder. ”I've worked with the MPD for over ten years and feel honored to build upon the foundation Chief Wallace and Mayor Courtney have established. I have always been passionate about public safety and hope to continue bettering our community one day at a time.”
The City of Madison and its Board of Public Works and Safety interviewed Detective Sergeant Scudder for this position last week and are happy to announce him as the new head of the MPD. Scudder will officially take office on January 3, 2024, as Chief of Police for the City of Madison Police Department.
