New law requires Indiana coaches to be trained in heat exhaustion

Ready for fall sports season

Indiana high school coaches have about a week left to make sure they get their heat training.

House Enrolled Act 1024 goes into effect July 1. It requires interscholastic and intramural coaches to complete a certified course on heat preparedness by the Indiana High School Athletic Association every two years. With certain sports, especially football, where athletes train in the heat of summer,

The law ensures coaches are well prepared to handle heat-related issues that arise during practices and games.

IHSAA football season begins with first workouts on July 30th.
