Southwestern campus was also on lockdown as well
On Friday, September 21, 2018 at approximately 12:02 p.m. MCHS administrators received a report of a potential, external threat regarding a former Madison student who reportedly indicated they were going to attempt to access campus in order to collect money owed to him by another student.
Local law enforcement was notified and within a short time the MCHS campus was locked down. Shortly thereafter, due to proximity, MJHS was also placed under a precautionary lockdown. Officers from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Madison City Police, and Indiana State Police assisted school Resource Officers with internal and external campus closures.
Following an investigation the person of interest was located and detained for questioning. At no time were any Madison students in danger.
“Today our students, administrators, and law enforcement worked together in order to prevent a potential situation,” states Dr. Jeff Studebaker, MCS Superintendent. “As a school district we have our crisis team and processes in place in the event a situation occurs. It takes a number of agencies working together for this to work as it should. We realize a lockdown in today’s world is a very scary situation for students and parents. We do our best to communicate as timely as possible with the details we were provided by our law enforcement partners as the situation and investigation evolved.”
“Any threat to our school system is taken very seriously,” states Sheriff John Wallace. “We are obviously very relieved this situation worked out as it did and are very proud of the response from both Madison Schools and our law enforcement partners.”
