MAN CONVICTED OF AIDING, INDUCING, OR CAUSING DEALING METHAMPHETAMINE SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS

This case is from 2019

SCOTT COUNTY (May 19, 2022) – After pleading guilty to Aiding, Inducing, or Causing Dealing in

Methamphetamine, and after sentencing arguments were presented to the Court by the Prosecutor’s Office and by the

defense counsel, Matthew Banks has been sentenced to fourteen (14) years to the Indiana Department of Correction.

The Court Ordered the sentence to be served with the first seven (7) years in prison, the next three (3) years on Home

Detention, and the final four (4) years on probation. As part of the sentence handed down by the Court, Mr. Banks

will be offered opportunities to participate in drug treatment programming.

The conviction stemmed from the crime he committed on August 28, 2019, when officers with the Scottsburg Police

Department conducted a controlled purchase of methamphetamine from a different suspected drug dealer. After the

initial controlled purchase of methamphetamine was made, officers learned that Matthew Banks intended to deal more

methamphetamine in addition to firearms. After Matthew Banks and another individual completed the dealing of both

methamphetamine and firearms, the officers located Matthew Banks near the vehicle in which they had observed the

controlled purchases occur. Officers searched Matthew Banks and located a set of digital scales and two small zip

baggies, which are commonly used in the sale and delivery of methamphetamine and other controlled substances.

“The Prosecutor’s Office is committed to making Scott County the safest place we can. This case took both illegal

drugs and firearms off our streets and out of the hands of those individuals who should not possess them,”stated Chris

Owens, Scott County Prosecuting Attorney.

I would like to thank the Scottsburg Police Department for their work that led to this conviction and for getting these

drugs and firearms off of our streets. I also want to thank Chief Deputy Prosecutor Amanda Herald and Deputy

Prosecutor Alexa Bischoff for their work in obtaining the conviction and sentence in this matter.
