(Madison, Ind.) - A Madison woman, Barbara J. Mason, today received a sixteen-year sentence in the Jefferson Circuit Court. The Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office obtained the sentence by agreement following Mason’s conviction for Dealing Methamphetamine, a level 3 felony.

On March 27, 2020, Madison Police executed a search warrant at Mason’s home located at 732 W. 3rd Street in Madison. Officers obtained probable cause for the search warrant based, in part, on tips to the department that alleged Mason had been dealing methamphetamine.

During the execution of the search warrant, Madison Police located over ten grams of methamphetamine, along with cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Upon questioning, Mason admitted that she sold at least ten grams of methamphetamine per week.

“This case is an example of our Jefferson County drug investigation and prosecution teams working together perfectly,” said Jefferson County Prosecutor, David Sutter. “We work hard to engage the community in detecting drug dealing, in training officers to thoroughly work these cases, and in making sure the Prosecutor’s Office uses the legal tools available to keep drug dealers off our streets. All of those elements came together here,” said Sutter.

Mason entered a guilty plea to Dealing Methamphetamine as a level 3 felony and was sentenced by agreement to sixteen years. Nine of those years will be served at the Indiana Department of Correction, and the remainder will be served on supervised probation. Regarding the sentence, Prosecutor Sutter stated, “The strength of the case allowed us to exact an agreement on our terms, and the length of the sentence means that this defendant is no longer a threat to our community.”
