MADISON POLICE TO RETIRE K9 “MAX”

On Sunday May 6, 2018 The Madison Police Department will officially retire K-9 Officer Max from our department.

Max was born on 06/06/2008. Max has served the City of Madison since July 2010. Max was purchased with a donation from local businessman John Morgan. Other Local businesses and persons also donated to help with the costs of training and equipment.

Max has served under the direction of his handler and Madison Police Officer Senior Patrolman Ricky Harris. Ricky Harris has been an officer with the Madison Police Department for over 9 years.

Max has been used for drug detection, traffic stops, search warrants, human tracking and criminal apprehension. Max has been used in Jefferson, Switzerland, Jennings, and Ripley County and even Trimble County Kentucky. Max has been involved in multiple meth lab detections.

Early on in his career Max discovered 2 mobile meth labs during traffic stops. Max has been involved in numerous traffic stops yielding ½ pound or more in marijuana.

Max has done demonstrations to show off his training, skills, and abilities to local schools, 4H, Boy Scouts, church organizations, and sports activities.

Max has been involved in the random school searches at Madison, Southwestern, Switzerland County since he started working at the Madison Police Department.

Max was a true asset to the department and has served our community well. Max will be missed by the City of Madison and the officers of the Madison Police Department. The Madison Police Department cannot forget to thank Officer Ricky Harris. He has dedicated lots of training and time with Max over the years. They worked great together as a team. 


Max will enjoy the rest of his days relaxing and for sure wanting the tennis ball with Officer Ricky Harris and his family.
