Cause of fire under investigation
FIRE CREWS FROM KENT, HANOVER, DEPUTY AND MADISON TOWNSHIP BATTLED AN EARLY CHRISTMAS MORNING FIRE OF A MADISON POLICE OFFICER WILLIAM WATTERSON AT HIS HOME ON 900 WEST NEAR KENT.
BOTH HIM AND HIS DAUGHTER WERE ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE HOME BUT THE HOME WAS A TOTAL LOSS INCLUDING BELONGINGS, THE CALL CAME IN AROUND 4:50 AM ON CHRISTMAS MORNING WHEN FIREFIGHTERS WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE FOR THE SMELL OF SMOKE UPON ARRIVAL OF CREWS FIRE WAS COMING THRU THE ROOF OF THE HOME.
WHEN CREWS SEEN THE FLAMES THEY CALLED FOR THE ADDITIONAL COMPANIES AND POURED 1,000 GALLONS OF WATER ON THE STRUCTURE BEFORE FIRST TANKER ARRIVED.
FIREFIGHTERS FOUGHT THE BLAZE FOR FIVE AND HALF HOURS AND DOUSED THE HOME WITH FOURTY FIVE THOUSAND GALLONS OF WATER, THE HOME AND A GARAGE WITH A CAR WERE A TOTAL LOSS BUT FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO RETRIEVE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FROM THE HOME EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE SOAKED WITH WATER AND SMOKE.
THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BUT OFFICIALS BELIEVE THE FIRE STARTED IN BREAKER BOX THAT WAS LOCATED IN THE GARAGE
CREWS WERE ASSISTED BY MANY DIFFERENT CREWS SINCE IT WAS SO FRIGID AND ROADS WERE FREZZING FROM THE WATER
