Criminal charges are merely allegations
On January 13, 2022, MPD Detectives and Officers served a search warrant in the 400 block of East Second Street in reference to an investigation into child pornography. The investigation, led by Detective Ricky Harris of MPD was the result of an online cybertip from the Internet Crimes against Children task force (ICAC). As a result of the search warrant on the residence, and multiple search warrants for online user accounts, probable cause was established to arrest Charles Benjamin Hammon, age 34 of Madison Indiana on one charge of possession of child pornography, a level 6 felony and one charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor. The investigation is ongoing, as digital storage devices seized in the search will be submitted to the state forensics lab. Detective Harris was assisted in the case by Chief John Wallace, Detective Sgt. Kyle Cutshaw, Captain Season Jackson, and patrol officers Josh Nolan, Curtis Shelpman, and Graham Heffelfinger.
Criminal charges are merely allegations, and Charles B. Hammon is presumed innocent unless otherwise proven guilty in a court of law.
