Summer Reading “Tails and Tales” June 1 – July 31 Madison and Hanover

Visit either library beginning June 1st to grab your first reading log for ages 0-10, ages 11-18, or a book entry for adults! Reading logs and entry forms are also available from our webpage! Once you start summer reading you can get a free t-shirt! Youth earn prizes like toys and coupons for completing logs. Adults earn chances to win gift cards each week. Check out programs scheduled throughout the summer. All ages! Summer reading continues until July 31st. Free.

Mother Goose on the Loose: In the Park! June 8, 15, 22, 29 10:00am John Paul Park

Mother Goose on the Loose is designed for children 6mo-35mo. and includes rhymes, songs, musical instruments and more for babies and toddlers and their caregivers. Siblings and older children welcome. Bring your own chair or blanket! Social distancing will be in place. Registration required. Please, register each week that you plan to attend. Learn more about our local wildlife from Clifty Falls naturalist, Kayla Leach. She will bring a few turtles and share lots of interesting information about them. Various community helpers will be sharing stories with us in the park each week. These story times are suitable for all ages. Reading to Dogs in the Park June 12 10:00am John Paul Park

Would you like to meet a local dog and get some extra practice reading out loud? A few friendly therapy dogs will be at John Paul Park for a special reading program! We will bring the books. Meet and read to a trained therapy dog. Location: John Paul Park, outdoors “weather permitting”. Social distancing will be in place. Registration required. Sand Art June 18th 11:00/11:30am & 2:00/2:30pm Madison

Each participant can create one layered bottle of sand during this fun summer program. Sand Art will be outdoors if possible at the Main Library. Adult supervision is required. Please, register each child individually for a 30 minute time slot. Please, consider bringing a mask since it is difficult to distance during this activity and in case of inclement weather, the program may take place in the auditorium. Free. The Library @ the Farmers Market! June 26 9 am –Noon Farmers Market of Madison

Stop by the library table near the Broadway Fountain at the Market on Saturday. The library will have a fun craft for kids of all ages, library information and more! Make a fun spinning paper toy, get a fruits and vegetables sorting activity, and pick up reading logs or adult drawing entries for summer reading. Also, be sure to visit our Friends Of The Library Pop-Up Book Sale at Elm and Main!

Leap Into Science: Balance Program June 30 11:00am Madison

All ages are welcome at this fun hands on program! Participants will explore balance in ways that children can easily understand. Topics like gravity and weight distribution are easily explained using fun stories, crafts, and experiments. This program was developed by the Franklin Institute. Registration is required. Firefly Award Voting! Ongoing through July 31st Madison and Hanover

Stop in any time May 1st through July 31st to read five special picture books that are on display. Individual titles can be checked out as well. Children age five and under may cast one vote for their favorite! All ballots will be turned into the Indiana State Library’s Center for the Book and the winner is announced in August. These books will inspire you to read, sing, talk, write and play with your kids.
