Summer Reading ~ June 1 – July 31
Each participant receives a free Jefferson County Public Library t-shirt. For each book read, submit an entry form at either library or submit online at https://forms.gle/PstyfHb5t2GHX5PT9. Four gift card winners each week.
The Jefferson County Seed Library Madison Public Library Housed on the main floor of the Madison Public Library, the Jefferson County Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that growers can borrow to plant at home. Seeds are available from the second week in March through October. Each person may check out up to three packets per visit, to a total of nine packets per season. At the end of the growing season, borrowers are encouraged to save seeds to return to the library and/or keep for their garden next year. The Seed Library will only accept open-pollinated seeds that have been grown without the use of chemicals. The Seed Library is housed on the main floor of the Madison Public Library. Drawing and Painting Class ~ June 3 and 24 4:00pm-5:30pm Madison Public Library Learn basics of drawing accurately by drawing the human head. A comprehensive series of 10 classes on Thursdays, covering method and technique, and focusing, with lecture and step-by-step lessons, on a particular project each week concerning drawing; painters pursue independent study. Each student will need to purchase materials for the class, utilizing common household-type supplies for the drawing exercises, principally regular No. 2 pencils, pens, office-type printer paper, a ruler or straight edge, and a drawing board of some kind. Adult and Young Adult – all skill levels are welcome. Instructor Russell Vossler.
Online Drawing and Painting Class ~ June 7, 14, 21 and 28 6:00pm-7:30pm Join Instructor Russell Vossler for a comprehensive series of classes on Mondays, covering aspects of drawing accurately and training observation, and focusing on a particular area each week. Each student will need to purchase materials for the class appropriate for either drawing or painting. The lectures focus on drawing; painters pursue independent study. See website for materials lists. Participants in the program will need to join the Facebook group “JCPL Online Drawing and Painting Class”. Adult and Young Adult.
Author Talk ~ David Kummer: Everything, Somewhere ~ June 9 5pm-5:45pm Madison Public Library
Local author David Kummer will discuss his newly-released fictional work, “Everything, Somewhere,” in which you will recognize the city of Madison. D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review writes, “A small town replete with secrets and coming-of-age experiences juxtaposed with old age choices ... Everything, Somewhere takes a satisfying journey both sentimental and dangerous. It walks the avenues of mental illness and health, as well as incorporating a newfound conviction that, somewhere out there, there are answers. Its delightful twists and turns challenge its characters and invite readers to think about life's trajectory and its ultimate course.” Following the author talk, Q and A, and book signing, Kummer will continue the discussion at Village Lights Bookstore, 110 East Main Street, Madison at 6:00pm, where copies of “Everything, Somewhere” are available for purchase.
Friends of the Library Sidewalk Sale ~ June 12 and 26 9:30am-12:30pm Madison Public Library
Join the Friends of the Library for a Sidewalk Sale featuring a variety of materials, including children's, premium, and adult fiction books.
Needle Felt a Flower Bouquet ~ June 16 2:00pm-3:30pm Madison Public Library
Students will learn how to felt wool roving into flowers using a specialized needle and cookie cutters. By using a variety of colors and techniques, everyone will go home with a bouquet full of brightly colored flowers. All materials are provided. Instructor TeriLu Adler is an Indiana Artisan and was a recipient of the On-Ramp Fellowship sponsored by the Indiana Arts Commission. She creates 3-D art using many media, has her work in galleries in Carmel, French Lick, Madison and Vevay, and participates in several juried art fairs each year. Her studio is located in Madison. Space is limited. Registration required.

Author Talk ~ James Emerson Hough: Eighty-Nine and Still Evolving ~ June 19 11am-12pm Madison Public Library
Join James Emerson Hough for a morning talk about his newly-released work, “Eighty-Nine Years and Still Evolving,” a collection of works that invites the reader into deep introspection, featuring thought-provoking writings that express his thoughts on life, retirement, nature, society, and more. Following the author talk, Q and A, and book signing, Hough will continue the discussion at Crafted Coffee Company, 329 West Main Street, Madison at 12:30pm.
Hanover Book Group ~ June 28 5:30pm-6:30pm Hanover Public Library Read a great book, and enjoy conversation and refreshments with fellow booklovers. Registration required. This month's book will be How to Fly by Barbara Kingsolver. The books will be available at the patron services desks at both Madison and Hanover Public Libraries.
