(Madison, Ind.) - The Madison Fire Department teamed up with the Red Cross for their free smoke detector campaign.

This campaign allows for any Madison resident to be provided with a free smoke detector for single or two-family homes.

According to the department, home fires claim seven lives every day but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half by warning residents of a fire, allowing them time to escape safely.

They started the campaign on Thursday, January 30 and have already installed four smoke detectors around Madison.

If you would like to learn more about the program or would like to donate a smoke detector you can call the Madison Fire Department at 812-265-8350.

If you would like to submit a request form for a smoke detector you can visit the fire department website.
