Madison City Councilman Dan Hoffman was found deceased yesterday from an apparent suicide. The Madison Courier broke the story on Thursday morning. The official cause of death will not be released until toxicology results are final.

"We are very saddened," Mayor Damon Welch told The Madison Courier in a Courier Staff Report. "It is tragic ... he was very passionate about what he did."

Hoffman was an employee of the Indiana Department of Child Services and was recently based out of Switzerland County. He is survived by two children.

The City Council has cancelled tonight's and Tuesday night's 2019 Budget Workshops according to a press release from the City of Madison. A public meeting notice will be posted as soon as new dates have been determined. For more information you may contact Rick Berry at 812-265-8316.
