MADISON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES BUDGET

Supporting Mayor's Priorities

                                 MADISON

Madison, Indiana (October 18, 2022) –The Common Council of the City of Madison voted 7-0 to approve the 2023 budget. The $12.7 million budget prioritizes Madison’s Mayor Bob Courtney’s key initiatives: public safety, economic opportunity, and quality of life.

“The 2023 budget puts people first, and I am thankful to council for their support. As you see investments being made to restore blighted properties, improve public safety, fix our sidewalks and infrastructure, and invest in our city parks system, we hope you will feel that to us, you come first,” said Mayor Courtney.

The approved budget includes a detailed 5-year capital investment plan that prioritizes city projects, utilizes public-private partnerships to promote investment across the community and leverages state and federal resources to make Madison the regional destination it is meant to be.

2023 budget highlights include:

  • $4.7 million investment in public safety to support police and fire operational costs and continued education and training.
  • $1.5 million investment in the city parks system, which includes the reduction of the city golf course deficit by over 60% and continuing to increase the city campground’s profitability so the revenues can be reinvested into our neighborhood parks.
  • Continuing the city’s investment in the P.A.C.E. Grant program to eliminate blight and attract investment, raise property values, and reduce crime.
  • Investing in the city’s infrastructure by taking a data-driven approach to improving our streets and sidewalks as well as improving pedestrian safety.
