The Madison Police Department (MPD) is pleased to announce the promotion of Captain Rick Mundt to the position of Major/Assistant Chief of Police. Major Mundt is a graduate of Southwestern High School and continued his education at Ball State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Criminology. Major Mundt is a 28-year veteran of MPD and has held various roles, including K-9 handler, Crime Scene Investigator, and most recently, Captain of Patrol.

“Major Mundt is already a respected leader of our police force, and I believe we will make an effective team. We will continue to build upon the foundation that our predecessors have left and lead MPD into the future,” Chief of Police Shawn Scudder stated.

“I look forward to working with Chief Scudder and Major Mundt to achieve our goals for MPD and the safety of our community. Their experience and leadership will move the department forward, and I am grateful they have agreed to serve the community in this capacity,” said Madison’s Mayor Bob Courtney.

Major Mundt said “I am looking forward to and excited about helping lead this department into its next chapter. We have a great bunch of officers at MPD, and I am glad that with my new position, I will be able to continue working closely with them.”
