Local Sheriff's Offices Warning Of Scams Relating To Fake Inmate Deaths

It is important to not give out any personal information to the caller unless you are certain with whom you are speaking.

(undated) – Local Sheriff’s Offices are warning residents of yet another scam.

With this scam, people are receiving calls from what they believe to be the local jail sergeant who claims to be calling to inform them that a loved one has passed away while incarcerated.

Although these calls appear to be coming from the jail, it is important to not give out any personal information to the caller unless you are certain with whom you are speaking.  Hang up and call the Jail directly if you are unsure.

Law enforcement believes that these scammers are wanting money but instead are causing distress to families and/or friends of inmates.
