Light-Up Madison & Santa Schedule

Saturday, November 24th

Christmas preparations began this week with the placement of the City of Madison Christmas tree at Broadway/Main Street. This year’s tree was donated by Lonnie and Laura Jester of Madison and was carried downtown with a police escort by Heitz Sign Company. On Saturday, November 24th, Mayor Damon Welch & Santa Claus will officially recognize the start of the Christmas season in Madison by lighting up the city Christmas tree and the lights on top of downtown buildings. The date is a change this year to be a part of Small Business Saturday in downtown Madison.

The event will start at 6:00PM at the Christmas tree by the Broadway Fountain. Santa and the Mayor will welcome community members and they will “flip the switch” to turn on the Christmas lights in Madison. Community members of all ages are invited to help celebrate beginning the holiday season! Light Up Madison will also include Christmas music from a portion of the Community Band, caroling led by Trinity United Methodist Church, and free photos next to Santa’s cottage on Main Street until 8pm.

Prior to “Light Up Madison”, the Madison Public Library will host Santa and members of the public for Christmas caroling and readings at 5:00pm. Light refreshments will be available. Santa will then escort the group from the library to the Christmas tree and Broadway fountain in time for the start of “Light Up Madison.”

Santa will be available to talk to kids after the event at Santa’s cottage, which will be located again this season in front of the Comfort Station on Main Street. Santa will also make additional trips to Madison in the coming weeks:

Saturday, November 24th from 5:00pm-8:00pm during Light Up Madison

Saturday, December 1st from 1:00pm-3:00pm following “Very Merry Christmas Parade”

Saturday, December 8th from 4:00pm-8:00pm at “Wonderland in Bicentennial Park”

Sunday, December 9th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at “Wonderland in Bicentennial Park”

Friday, December 21st from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Cottage on Main Street

Saturday, December 22nd from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Cottage on Main Street

Letters to Santa can be emailed to santamadison@gmail.com. A list of Santa’s hours can also be heard by calling 1-305-70-SANTA (1-305-707-2682). Madison Public Library Christmas ornaments are on sale at City Hall, Visit Madison, German American Bank on the hilltop, and the Library. Few Ohio Theatre ornaments remain, with a limited supply of Fair Play Fire Co #1 ornaments available. All proceeds support the Christmas festivities in Madison.
